Although Paris Mini Baker is not the first shop which operating with ice-cream puff, but they successfully turn up to be the most famous and popular shop in Kampar which is selling ice-cream puffs. Due to this, they gain competitive advantages among its industry.

Paris Mini Baker has many different flavors of ice-cream. It varies from day to day offering different flavor every day. The puffs are baked daily, ensuring its freshness and tenderness, Due to the current scorching heat of the sun, many customers approach the shop to have an ice-cream puff. besides, it costs only RM2.00. It is worth to have an ice-cream puff the size of your palm with just RM2.00.

Besides that, the puff of Paris Mini Baker is special from the other shop as it is modified from the crispy pineapple bun. Paris Mini Baker used to sell the pineapple bun for quite long of times before they start to sell ice-cream puff. Therefore, they got their own recipe to make their own and special puff.

Paris Mini Baker is actually not only selling the ice-cream puff but also they got sell the others puff such as durian cream puff and yogurt puff. However, ice-cream puff is the most successful creation of Paris Mini Baker which got a lot of fans for it. Many people including students and household are addicted to the ice-cream puff by Paris Mini Baker. It is believed that the reason behind is because the delicious and various choice of ice-cream and also the crispy and yummy puff. There are more than 5 flavors of ice-cream flavors for customers to choose daily and also their puff have original and chocolate flavor.

Ice-cream puff is a kind of dessert that can satisfied customers easily, It is cheap and easy to get. Customers can enjoy the ice-cream puff right after their lunch or dinner. It's really enjoy when you can get a Paris Mini Baker ice-cream puff under the hot sun.

A few customers were interviewed and all of them gave positive feedback to Paris Mini Baker that ice-cream has a variety of different flavours and the puffs are really special because the cookie enclosing the ice-cream is very crispy. Paris Mini Baker also provides different type of ice-cream every day so that it does not bore the customers. Customers also gave compliments to their puffs because it is fresh and aromatic.

However, there are some recommendations given from interviewers that Paris Mini baker shop is too small and congested that the customers have no place to sit in order to enjoy their dessert. It is suggested that the owner could expand the shop providing seats.

Ice-cream puff is reforming of cream puff. The cream puff also called as profiterole in French. French choux pastry ball with sweet filling of whipped vream, pasty cream custard or ice-cream can consider as cream puff. Decoration of cream puff are garnished with chocolate souce, caramel or powdered sugar, The word of profiterole is come form Franceh and existed in England since 1604. However, the real meaning of profiterole is unclear from England and French, A Potage de proditeorolles of French recipe in 17th century described a coup of dried small bread simmered in almond broth and garnished with truffles and etc. The cream puff appeared in U.S. restaurant menu since 1851.

The variety of flavors could satisfy the taste buds of different customers, Besides, the price is affortable. There are rebate given to customers who owner bakes the egg tarts every day, keeping none of them nover night. This ensures the freshness and the tenderness of the crust.

Besides that, ET egg tart got a lot of recurring customers as they all feel that the owner of ET egg tart is so nice and friendly. They will just visit to the shop and chit chat with the owner. They are like close friend to each other and the friendship is start with the egg tart.

A food shop will not be successful without delicious foods. ET egg tart is said to be success due to they got the prefect egg tart. Although ET egg tart also selling the other type of foods like biscuit and others, but the egg tart turn up to be the most popular one among all the others choices. This is because the egg tart is made using the fresh egg and also is bake on daily basis. The egg tart is soft and sweet at the same time the crust of the egg tart us crispy and yummy.

As a conclusion, egg tart is a really famous and popular dessert among Malaysian, ET egg tart really did come out with the awesome egg tart which made the customers feel satisfied on it. ET egg tart is deserved to be the most successful egg tart shop in Kampar.

A few customers were interviewed and they all give positive feedback about the shop. The egg tart of ET egg tart shop is delicious, soft and tender, crispy at the edge. The egg tart are always fresh because the owner bakes them everyday, keeping non over night.

Customer also feels that the price of the egg tarts is reasonable and it is worth buying one. They are selling both small size and medium sized egg tarts. Customers are also satisfied with the various flavors of the tarts,

Most of the customers said that the boss is friendly and as they provide good services as well as good quality of foods. Customers who purchase regularly has also become friend with the boss.

History of egg tart 


Egg tart have been introduced in Guang Zhou, China before being launch to Hong Kong. European culture expanded in Guang Zhou, China because of First Opium War, The hypermarkets of Guang Zhou is being more and more. One of them introduced dim sum to attract customers and win.

Cha Chaan Tengs of Hong Kong were introduced custard tart that derived from Portuguese pastry via the Portuguese colony of Macau. Egg tart of Hong Kong is reform version of pastel de nata, popular in Macau when they close with Macau. Hence, they adopted some Macanese cuisine.

The egg tart in Hong Kong have two types of crust which are short crust pastry and puff pastry. Both of them are filled with rich custard that less creamy compare to English Custard tarts and they are sprinkled with ground nutmeg or cinnamon before eating,

Then, they pass the egg tart to oversea like Malaysia and others. Everyone is customize various favors that suit local people.

Group Opinion



Instead of exploring and introducing main courses like the others, our group had came up with some fresh ideas to recommend and we decided to create a new blog for dessert along with introduction of ET Egg Tart and Paris Mini Baker. 


What is dessert ?



Ø  Dessert is normally served at the end to conclude the main course of a meal, often it consists of sweet foods or candies such as ice-cream, cakes, jelly or other savory items.

Many people believed that dessert is good for nothing and on the other hand brings harms to our body such as obesity or diabetes. But there are some benefits of eating dessert after a meal on a regular basis. For one, having dessert after a meal can improve a person’s mood. Therefore, we hope that community’s false perception toward dessert can be removed and be infused with the benefits of eating dessert after reading through our blog. 


WHY THESE TWO PLACE ARE CHOSEN?


ET Egg Tart Bakery Shop



ET Egg Tart is a small shop selling cookies, biscuits, tarts and many more which is located at a small historical building. Et Egg Tart produces various types of biscuits in traditional ways. As year passes by, many shops that are alike with ET Egg Tart gave up on using traditional ways in the production. They started to invest in high technology machines because it guarantees a large amount of outputs which in turn leads to a high return and with a lesser risk. The most well known food of the shop is the egg tarts and they are all baked daily. The tart itself is crunchy and aromatic. It has a crispy crust along with great aroma from the eggs and butter, and the fillings are so soft yet firm and it melts upon entering your mouth. Besides, this shop sells special sized mini egg tarts with two flavors which are the original flavor and the pandan flavour. The mini egg tarts are pretty unique, fresh and are recommended to all egg tarts lovers out there who wish to try out something new. Just by looking at it, you know that from deep beneath you, you want the tarts. Resistance is futile, have a tart.





Paris Mini Baker


Paris Mini Baker is also a small but yet famous bakery shop that is situated around Kampar Grand Hotel. It is the first bakery shop which releases ice-cream puff a few years back and business grew tremendously. The ice-cream puffs were favoured among students and due to the hot weather in Kampar, ice-cream puff became a favourite after meal dessert. The crispy puff made of cookies enclosing the ice-cream created an absolutely stunning flavor and with incredible taste. Although Kampar already has two bakery shops selling ice-cream puffs today but we strongly recommend this bakery shop because the puff itself consists of two flavors which are chocolate and original. For the ice-cream, it has a total of seven flavors which are Green Tea, Yam, Chocolate, Rainbow, Mint, Oreo Cookies and Mango. Besides, the ice-cream puffs are sold at a reasonable price.

In another word, Paris Mini Baker practices a Brick and Mortar strategy. Brick and Mortar refers to a business that operates in a physical shop and is a traditional “street-side” business that has a physical presence rather than virtual or online. Paris Mini Baker is said to be classified as a B2C because Paris Mini Baker sells their ice cream puff directly to their customers and received the payment simultaneously without the involvement of intermediaries.

This is due to the information that gained during the configuration process. For example, the customer’s profiles work in favour of a durable customer relationship. Besides that, B2C allows the owner to reduce their capital commitment and could avoid overproduction. Based on the advantages stated as above, Paris Mini Baker is able to sell all their ice cream puff within one day and none is left over night. This is to ensure the freshness of the food.

Similar to Paris Mini Baker, ET Egg Tart is also classified as a Business to Customer (B2C) type of business. The Business-to-Consumer is a type of commerce transaction that is conducted directly between businesses and their final consumers. ET Egg Tart is operating under the Brick and Mortal type of traditional model. Brick and mortar is a type of business that operates in a physical shop and is a traditional “street-side” business that has a physical presence rather than virtual or online. ET egg tart is said to be classified as a B2C type of business as ET egg tart sells all their egg tarts and products directly to their customers within their premises and receives the payment simultaneously without any involvement of intermediaries.

The benefits or advantages that can be obtained in this situation are that by using B2C type of business, the owner could have a better interaction with their customers. In this case, ET Egg Tart treats their customer as more than just a customer but a friend. They will open up and interact with their customers about almost anything ranging from the current weather, the recent economy and sharing their past experience. Moreover, B2C provides a platform for the owner of shop to provide better service to their customers. Due to the fact that ET egg tart deals directly with their customer, it guarantees that they will be able to provide the best services to their customers because they are the only beneficial. Besides, B2C enables the business to understand about the customer’s wants and needs more deeply.

Business Model




Business model is the plan executed by a company to earn profit and generate income from its operations. The model indicates that the functions and components of the business, the revenue and the expenses incurred. It also includes value proposition, customer relationship, channels, and customers segments. It basically describes how a company creates, conveys, and adds value in terms of social, economic, cultural and so on. In fact, business model can be divided into two parts. Part one is the activities done to make or produce something, like purchasing, manufacturing, and so on. While part two is about selling something, like finding and reaching customers, delivering and distributing the products.


Paris Mini Baker

Paris Mini Baker is adopting various business models. There are totally three business models which we are going to describe including manufacturer business (direct) model, direct marketing and viral marketing.

Manufacturer business model is defined as a manufacturer who sells their product directly to their customers without any intermediaries. We can see that Paris Mini Baker who baked their own puff is a manufacturer as they transform the raw materials into a completed product. The raw materials used by Paris Mini Baker including the powder, sugar, eggs, and the other. And the finished product or the final product that is directly sells to the customers is the puff that used to cover the ice cream.

Besides that, direct marketing is also used by Paris Mini Baker in operating their daily business. Direct marketing is actually a quite simple business model. It is a form of advertising which allows the business to communicate directly to the customer. For instances, the owner of Paris Mini Baker is able to communicate and sell their products to the customer who walk in their shop. Direct marketing in more suitable to be apply in a Brick and mortar type of shop which is a traditional “street-side” business that have a physical presence rather than virtual or online. For those shops that apply direct marketing, they undergo their business in a physical shop and verbal communications to deal with customers. Just like Paris Mini Baker, they rented a small shop in New Town Kampar and operate their business by selling products and services directly to customers. Besides that, it can also be called as the disintermediation method.

Direct marketing is one of the business model that focus on the face to face communication. Face to face communication plays an important role in developing customer relationships. Paris Mini Baker had applied face to face communication effectively as the owner will ask the customers about their opinion on the taste of ice cream and also the puff. In this case, face to face communication enables the business to gain a better understanding of the need of customers which indirectly lead the business to achieve their business goal.

Furthermore, Paris Mini Baker also apply viral marketing business model to their business. Viral marketing refers to the marketing technique that uses the pre-existing social networking services and other technologies to try to produce an increase in brand awareness and to achieve other marketing objectives. It can be delivered by word of mouth or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet and mobile networks. In this case, Paris Mini Baker relies on the customers to help promote their business using the word of mouth. The customers will introduce and recommend the ice cream puff of Paris Mini Baker to their friends if the ice cream puff is delicious and worth to try. Besides that, Paris Mini Baker has also created a Facebook page to promote their business. Paris Mini Baker will post photos of their ice cream puffs to the page regularly and constantly in order to maintain the interest of the existing customer and attract more potential customers. Instagram which is becoming more and more popular nowadays are also useful in this case as their customers can take the photos of the ice cream puff and upload them to Instagram along with the hashtag remarks. This is an indirect yet efficient method for Paris Mini Baker to broaden their market.

Same as Paris Mini Baker, ET egg tart is also one of the manufacturer that product their own product using the raw materials. For example, the baked their own egg tart using the powder, sugar, eggs and the others.

Furthermore, ET egg tart is a traditional shop which adopting the Brick and Mortal business model and sells the products directly to customers. Direct Marketing is apply in this situation as direct marketing is a form of advertising which allows the business to communicate directly to the customer. The direct marketing method is suitable to be used in a Brick and Mortar type of business. Brick and Mortar is a traditional “street-side” business that have a physical presence rather than virtual or online. They undergo their business in a physical shop and verbal communications to deal with customers. It works by selling products and services directly to customers. It is also called the disintermediation method.

By applying the theory to ET egg tart, we know that ET egg tart undergo their business in a shop located at Old Town Kampar. They operate their business from morning until noon and employ workers to assist them in running their daily business.

Besides that, this kind of Brick and Mortal type of business which operate using direct marketing method emphasize on the face to face communication which enable the owner to communicate directly with their customers. The feedback of customer can be got in the shortest time and also the customer relationship can be developed in this situation. As ET egg tart had been operated for more than 20 years, their recurring customers are not only their customers but they are like friends with each other. This kind of customer relationship cans turns their normal customers into loyal customer at the same time attract new customers to visit their shop and hence it guarantees a long term profit for ET egg tart. Although a physical presence may help to increase the legitimacy of the business, it requires higher cost for ET egg tart to continue their daily business operation. For one, they need to pay for the rental, salary and the electric bills.

However, they did some simple marketing and advertising approach. The main marketing approach used by ET egg tart is that they promote their products using the word-of-mouth (WOM). WOM marketing is when a customer's interest for a company's product or service is reflected in their daily dialogs. WOM marketing can be generated through different publicity activities set up by companies, or by encouraging consumer-to consumer (C-to-C)  and consumer-to- marketer communications. the customers of ET egg tart will help the company to promote their business through daily communication as well. It is the sample and yet effective and efficient because people are more easily convinced by the people they know as compared to advertisement. It is fast and cost saving.

Due to the increasing amount of students in Kampar, internet has become a very useful platform for promotion and advertisement. Although ET egg tart is not involved in the internet world, students who tried their egg tart loved them and they start to promote it throughout the internet. ET egg tart is promoted via Facebook and other website such as "Buzzhand". There is a list of all the delicious and special foods in Kampar and ET egg tart is recommended. Moreover, 'Hashtag" is not an offical advertising strategy used by ET egg tart but one of the few indirect advertising method created by customers. Through the internet, it is effortless and easy to promote ET egg tart to even people who have not heard of it and also be able to obtain their location.

Paris Mini Baker is a small shop in Kampar which is involved in many advertising and marketing activities throughout their business. By using positive word-of-mouth (WOM), customers of Paris Mini Baker helped the company to promote their business as well as their products like the ice-cream puff via daily communication. By gibing compliments to their ice-cream puff, people around them will be embedded by the information they just heard about the ice-cream puff. People will then have the urge to try the ice-cream puff and besides, it cost only RM2. WOM marketing could be simplest way yet an effective and efficient way for advertising because people are more easily convinced by the people they know as compared to advertisement. It is fast and cost saving.

Next, Paris Mini Baker is involved in social media advertising and marketing. they had created a fan page on Facebook. The Facebook page included all the information of their shop such as address, contact numer, opening and closing hour and other information. Advertising via Facebook bring advantages in the social media to the owner of Paris Mini Baker. Paris Mini Baker can promote their products and service regularly on Facebook. There are also many attractive photos in the page that is used to attract viewer's attention to visit their shop. Moreover, the Facebook page also can acts as one of the platform from the customers to provide feedback to them.


Last but not least, Paris Mini Baker will upload new menus in their Facebook pages as well as notices such as the off days so that their customers as well aware. In conclusion, internet as well as the social media act as some of the most effective ways for Paris Mini Baker to advertise and market their business.

Although ET egg tart bakery shop had become well-known in Kampar via Facebook, Twitter and also customer Word-of- mouth (WOM), but they are still a long way from being well-known all over the country. 

In our opinion, ET egg tart can have a social presence that shares news and personal interest stories about the tart instead of just posting dull updates about the products or services. For example, the reasons they establish the shop? Where did the idea come from and so on. This social outreach should be more than just another advertising channel. It should be a source of lifestyle content for the target audience.

Besides, a specially designed gift wrapping for the product is also one of the ways to help ET egg tart bakery shop attract more customers. As we all know, people are always attracted by beauty as wellas special packaging. Offering custom designed packaging like customizable monograms, engravings, or handwritten notes could help improve their business. Their owner of the shop can also offer hand written notes for their loyal customers to thank them for their support.

Moreover, ET egg tart has to create a website and upgrade the website to become more attractive and easier to navigate around. ET egg tart has no a official website either in Facebook or any other social website. They are suggested to create and organize their website in a way that it is easy for both the visitors to browse and for the search engines to understand with complete details and beautiful designs. For example, visitors should be able to easily find out what they are looking for on the website, and are willing to hang around longer with it. ET egg tart bakery shop can add on information such as their address, business, hours telephone number, products photo and so on in order to make the website complete and hold the visitors attention. It will be good to offer an accurate map leading to the shop, to ease the customers from searching for the shop.

Paris Mini Baker is operating as small business that sells ice-cream puff in New Town Kampar. Although it is well-known for its delicious ice-cream puff all over Facebook, Instagram, and WOM advertising. but they are still a long way from being well-known all over the country.

In our opinion,the small sized shop and the presence of competitors are a few of the problems Paris Mini Baker faced. In order to attract the customers' attention, Paris Mini Baker could specialize in their product making them unique and special as compared to others along with reasonable price. For examples, they could develop a new flavor of ice-cream that is new in the market and with prices cheaper than their competitors. This ensures the quality of their puff and they can have goodwill for their brand, By giving special offering, promotion or sponsorship in an event, is also a quick way for Paris Mini Baker to raise popularity.

Besides, Paris Mini Baker could try integrating across channels by creating multi-channel offerings to allow their customers to experiences their brand consistently, whatever their shopping method of choice. For example, Paris Mini Baker could push out products other than ice-cream and yoghurt puffs. They could widen up their product lines into various type such as cupcakes that they are selling via different channels are sufficiently differentiated to account for price differences.

Moreover, by creating a website with stickiness contents and interesting designs can target the online customers well. For the stickiness content, Paris Mini Baker could encourage their customers to share their opinions, thoughts and provide feedback on the website so that the company could understand more of their products from customers' point of view and could make improvements through the customers' recommendation. For the part interesting design, a brand-appropriate site design and well-structured navigation is the key for attracting customers and getting them to return. For example, they can use vibrant colour with flashy design to attract teenagers especially girls and make them desire for their products.
